Heavy rain and strong winds lashed Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Tuesday. The downpour flooded several low-lying areas and disrupted daily life.
Several roads and residential streets were affected as rainwater accumulated in vulnerable areas. Authorities increased emergency measures to manage drainage and traffic problems.
Rainwater Enters Streets and Homes
Islamabad’s Golra recorded the highest rainfall at 31 millimetres. Bokra received 24mm, while Saidpur and Sector H-8 recorded 11mm each.
In Rawalpindi, Shamsabad received 22mm of rain. Chaklala recorded 9mm.
Several areas of Rawalpindi were affected by water accumulation. These included Dhok Kala Khan, Sadiqabad, Shakrial and Kuri Road.
Rainwater also entered streets and homes in some low-lying locations.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Rawalpindi declared a rain emergency. Teams were directed to address water accumulation and drainage problems.
A heavy flow of rainwater entered Mohalla Murree Hazara Colony in Union Council 22. Streets and homes were inundated, causing difficulties for residents.
Local residents appealed to the district administration for immediate assistance. They also raised concerns over delays in reaching the affected area.
Heavy Rain Continues Across Twin Cities
Heavy rain was also reported in Islamabad’s F-9, F-10 and F-11 sectors. G-6, G-7 and G-8 also received significant rainfall.
Strong winds accompanied the downpour. Traffic movement was affected in several parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Subsequent rainfall readings showed 18mm in Golra and 15mm in Bokra. Saidpur recorded 6mm, while Sector H-8 received 8mm.
In Rawalpindi, Shamsabad recorded another 18mm of rain. Chaklala received 3mm in the later reading.
Authorities remained alert as rainfall continued. Special attention was given to areas vulnerable to flooding and water accumulation.
Islamabad Traffic Police Issues Safety Advisory
Islamabad Traffic Police advised motorists to drive slowly during the rainfall. Citizens were asked to allow additional travel time.
Drivers were also advised to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. They were urged to remain in their lanes and use indicators and side mirrors properly.
Motorists were advised to use fog lights and wear seat belts.
Motorcyclists were instructed to use the extreme left lane and wear helmets.
Traffic police personnel remained deployed across major roads to assist commuters and manage traffic.
Citizens were also advised to follow traffic updates through Islamabad Traffic Police channels and ITP FM 92.4.
