ISLAMABAD: Heavy downpour in twin cities _ Islamabad and Rawalpindi flooded several roads and homes while scores of the vehicles got stranded in water on Tuesday.
Rains made the weather pleasant today, but the downpour created miseries for thousands of the people in the twin cities.
The CDA and WASA officials said the heavy rain increased water flow at the Katarian point of Nullah Lai to 12 feet and at Gawalmandi Bridge to 9 feet.
Meanwhile, in H13 and some other sectors in Islamabad the rain water entered low-lying areas and flooded streets and homes.
The Rawalpindi commissioner said that authorities have been placed on high alert due to flooding in Nullah Lai, where the water level was recorded around 17 feet. He said that the water level is being monitored and the “WASA machinery remains active”.
In addition, an army rescue squad has been called to the Nullah Lai bridge to cope with any emergency situation.
Pakistan Meteorological Department has asked the authorities concerned to keep the alert system updated and inform people about the actual situation in a timely manner.
Meanwhile, long queues of vehicles were seen on Murree Road due to accumulated rainwater, with several ambulances stuck in the traffic jam.
