Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has directed authorities to make the new 200-bed emergency centre at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) operational as soon as possible. He said the facility was urgently needed to improve emergency healthcare services.
The minister issued the directive during a visit to the hospital, where officials briefed him on the project’s progress, available facilities and remaining work. They informed him that the state-of-the-art emergency centre had entered its final stage of completion.
Kamal instructed officials to complete all cleaning, finishing and technical work according to the highest quality standards. Moreover, he emphasised the need to avoid unnecessary delays in opening the facility.
Minister Stresses Faster Project Completion
Highlighting the growing number of patients at PIMS, the minister said the new emergency centre had become an urgent requirement. Therefore, he directed the relevant authorities to speed up the remaining work and make the facility available to the public without delay.
He also instructed officials to accelerate the completion of the project’s PC-4 documentation. According to the minister, timely completion of administrative procedures would help prevent further delays.
Hospital officials assured the minister that work was progressing steadily. They expressed confidence that the emergency centre would become operational after the remaining tasks were completed.
New Facility to Expand Emergency Services
Officials informed the minister that the emergency centre would include a 30-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit and a 10-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit. The facility will also feature two operation theatres and two minor operation theatres.
Kamal said the government remained committed to providing timely and high-quality emergency healthcare services. He added that the new emergency centre would strengthen Pakistan’s public healthcare system and improve access to critical medical treatment.
The minister said modern healthcare infrastructure remained essential for meeting the country’s growing medical needs. Furthermore, he described the project as an important milestone for improving emergency services nationwide.
