Sindh to Dismiss School Teachers Who Are Absconding

KARACHI: In a significant move, the Sindh education department has announced plans to terminate school teachers who have been absent from their government positions across Karachi.

This decision aims to enhance educational standards and prevent ghost teachers from receiving undeserved salaries.

The department has instructed District and Taluka Education Officers to compile and submit a final list of these absentee teachers within the next two days. Despite repeated warnings, many of these teachers have not contacted the relevant officials.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) previously provided the education department with information about teachers living abroad. Some of these individuals have been drawing salaries for years without attending work, while others have submitted fraudulent medical certificates.

The identification of these absconding employees was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Education Department’s monitoring cell and the FIA.

In a related development, the Sindh education department had earlier dismissed eight ghost teachers across the province.

According to Akbar Leghari, these teachers, who were residing abroad, had been receiving salaries for the past two years despite their absence. The department’s secretary stated that Taluka education officers are actively identifying ghost teachers throughout the province.

The secretary has issued a stern warning, indicating that strict action will be taken against those found to be ghost teachers. This initiative underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring accountability and improving the integrity of the education system.
