The National Institute of Health, Islamabad (NIH) data showed Thursday morning that the number of new COVID-19 cases in Pakistan increased slightly just one day after it decreased somewhat, as the nation continues to record an erratic trend for coronavirus statistics.
According to today’s statistics, diagnostic testing on 17,397 samples revealed 390 additional cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing Pakistan’s COVID-19 positivity rate to 2.24 percent. Overnight, two more persons passed away while receiving coronavirus treatment, and 175 COVID-19 patients are currently receiving care at various hospitals across the nation.
Additionally, 480 virus-infected individuals recovered over the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of current COVID-19 cases in the nation to 10,202.
Due to escape mutations that give them an advantage, experts attribute the increase in COVID-19 cases in Pakistan to two sub-variants of the Omicron variant, known as BA.4 and BA.5.
They claim that the sub-variants have been spreading to individuals who have already had a vaccination or who have already contracted COVD-19, but there is no proof that these individuals are developing a serious illness as a result of the sub-variants.
