Congo Virus
In response to the alarming increase in Congo virus cases, the government of Balochistan has declared a red alert as the virus has claimed the lives of 16 individuals in the province.
This situation has necessitated immediate action, with caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki instructing the health and livestock departments to take urgent measures to contain the disease.
Chief Minister Domki emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the need to promptly inform the general public about the Congo virus. He also directed the implementation of anti-viral spray measures in dairy farms to reduce the virus’s spread. He stressed that individuals showing symptoms of the virus should receive immediate medical attention.
The urgency of the situation was highlighted by the tragic death of a doctor who had contracted the Congo virus in Quetta. According to the spokesperson for young doctors, the patient passed away while being transported to Karachi for medical treatment.
The Fatima Jinnah Hospital in Quetta has been overwhelmed with 41 patients suffering from the Congo virus this year, and sadly, 16 of them have succumbed to the disease.
Symptoms of the virus include high fever, muscle pain, vomiting, and internal bleeding. It is primarily transmitted to humans through ticks found on cattle and other livestock. With a high fatality rate and no vaccine or specific treatment available, the outbreak is a growing concern for the region.
