Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz have reached Islamabad to present themselves before the accountability court of Islamabad in relation to the Flagship, Al-Azizia, and Avenfield references of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Under the jurisdiction of Judge Nasir Javed Rana, the Accountability Court convened a hearing on Thursday regarding the Flagship, Al-Azizia, and Avenfield references, during which the assistant counsel of Hassan and Hussain Nawaz’s lawyer, Qazi Misbahul Hasan, represented them.
During the proceedings, it was disclosed that Senior Counsel Qazi Misbah would attend the hearing at 11:30 a.m. Furthermore, Rana Irfan Advocate, representing the accused, assured the court that his clients would surrender before noon.
In response to Judge Nasir Javed Rana’s inquiry about the accused’s appearance, Rana Irfan confirmed their commitment to appearing in court by noon without fail. Consequently, the accountability court adjourned the hearing until noon.
These references, encompassing Flagship, Al-Azizia, and Avenfield, have attracted significant attention due to their implications on Pakistan’s political and legal landscape, centering on alleged financial misconduct and corruption charges against prominent individuals.
Earlier on Tuesday, Hussain and Hassan, sons of PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, returned to Pakistan, marking their return after six years in London to evade arrest in corruption cases stemming from the Panama Papers scandal. Their arrival followed the suspension of their arrest warrants in three corruption cases related to the Panama Papers, allowing them to return to Pakistan from their self-imposed exile in the United Kingdom.
Upon landing at Lahore airport, they were escorted to their residence in Jati Umra under tight security provided by the Punjab police. Their departure from Pakistan in 2018 came after being implicated in corruption cases and subsequently declared proclaimed offenders for evading investigation and court proceedings. However, with the suspension of their arrest warrants until March 14 due to various corruption references, they are now preparing to face legal proceedings in Pakistan.
