Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem is seeking international recognition after submitting his emotional ballad ‘Bewajah’ for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards. The singer has entered the track in two categories: Best Music Video and Best Global Music Performance.
Raheem announced the submission through Instagram, sharing his hopes for the song to reach a global audience. However, the submission does not guarantee a nomination, as the Recording Academy’s voting process will determine the final nominees.
‘Bewajah’ Blends Urdu and Shina
Released in March 2026, ‘Bewajah’ combines Urdu lyrics with a Shina-language bridge. The song draws inspiration from Raheem’s roots in Gilgit-Baltistan and explores grief, heartbreak and emotional distance between lovers.
Producer Umair worked on the track, while filmmaker Arham Ikram directed its music video. The visuals feature the region’s mountainous landscape and a traditional freestyle polo match.
The video presents Raheem dressed in white against a crowd wearing dark clothing. It also showcases horses, traditional attire and cultural elements associated with Gilgit-Baltistan.
Traditional Polo Brings Regional Culture to the Screen
The music video places freestyle polo at the centre of its visual storytelling. The sport is famously associated with the Shandur Polo Festival, where players compete in a traditional format without the rules and referees used in conventional international polo.
By incorporating the sport and the region’s scenery, the video connects the song’s emotional themes with Raheem’s cultural background.
Grammy Consideration Marks a Milestone
Raheem’s submission adds to the growing international presence of Pakistani musicians. A submission means a recording has been put forward for consideration, but it is not the same as securing a nomination.
The first-round voting for the 2027 Grammys runs until October 22, with nominations scheduled for announcement on November 16. The 69th Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 7, 2027.
Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab made history in 2022 when her song ‘Mohabbat’ won Best Global Music Performance. Raheem’s entry now gives ‘Bewajah’ an opportunity to compete for recognition on the same international stage.
