Federal Minister for Railways Mohammad Hanif Abbasi invited Turkish companies to support Pakistan’s railway modernization efforts. He made the invitation during a two-day official visit to Türkiye. The discussions focused on technology, infrastructure, and future investment opportunities.
Pakistan Seeks Turkish Railway Expertise
Hanif Abbasi met senior officials of the Turkish Contractors Association during the visit. Both sides discussed several joint projects in the railway sector. They also reviewed Türkiye’s expertise in modern railway operations.
The meeting covered advanced signalling systems and Centralized Traffic Control technology. Participants also discussed digital railway systems and traffic management solutions. Furthermore, both sides explored ways to improve railway safety and operational efficiency.
Officials also reviewed plans for the modernisation of ML-1 and ML-3. They discussed establishing an advanced centralised traffic management system. The proposed system aims to make train operations safer and more efficient.
Focus Expands To Regional Connectivity
Hanif Abbasi expressed interest in Turkish expertise for railway safety and emergency response. He also welcomed greater technical cooperation between both countries.
Meanwhile, officials discussed infrastructure support for reviving the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul freight corridor. They said restoring the route could strengthen regional trade and economic connectivity.
The meeting also explored Turkish participation in the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway corridor. Additionally, both sides discussed investment opportunities in railway stations, freight terminals, and logistics parks.
Hanif Abbasi also reviewed the use of Turkish technology for local manufacturing. The discussions included passenger coaches, freight wagons, and other railway equipment. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation through technology and shared expertise.
