ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari has cancelled 10 votes of the PML-Q MNAs which were balloted in favor of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, the candidate of PTI and PML-Q.
While announcing the voting result, Deputy Speaker said that Pervez Elahi has secured 186 votes, but 10 votes of PML-Q are being cancelled after Q-League supremo Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain wrote a letter to his party’s MPAs, asking them not to vote for anyone in the Punjab Assembly.

Ch. Shujaat said that he does not want his party to support the candidate of Imran Khan.
Thus, after rejection of PML-Q MPAs’ votes, PDM candidate Hamza Shehbaz has got an edge of three votes over his opponent Pervez Elahi after securing 179 votes. Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari announced the result of voting in the Punjab Assembly on Friday night.
Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly also read the letter of Ch. Shujaat Hussain in the Punjab Assembly after announcing the result of voting. He said that keeping in view the order of Ch. Shujaat to his party’s MPAs, he has rejected all votes of PML-Q MPAs.
Soon after this announcement, PML-N and their allies in the Punjab Assembly raised slogans in support of Hamza Shehbaz and congratulated him for retailing the top slot of the Punjab province.
The opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Basharat said that his party will challenge the election of Hamza Shehbaz in the court.
