KARACHI: Pakistan’s rising squash star, Hamza Khan, delivered an exceptional performance to win the Men’s Golden Open Squash Championship title in Kalgoorlie, Australia, defeating Hong Kong’s Ka Hei Ho in the final.
The event, part of the PSA Challenger Tour, carried a prize purse of $6,000 and was hosted at the Ray Finlayson Sporting Club in Western Australia.
In the championship match on Sunday, the second-seeded Khan showcased his dominance and tactical prowess, overpowering Ho in straight sets with a commanding 3-0 victory. This win not only secured the title for Khan but also underscored his growing reputation as one of the most promising young squash players from Pakistan.
Khan’s journey through the tournament was marked by consistency and control. He began his campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Lap Man Au, also from Hong Kong, in the opening round, registering scores of 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.
In the quarterfinals, he faced a brief challenge against Australia’s Oscar Curtis, a wildcard entrant. After narrowly losing the second game, Khan bounced back strongly to win the match 3-1 with game scores of 11-8, 10-12, 11-4, 11-2.
In the semifinal, the Pakistani ace faced Ming Hong Tang, another Hong Kong player. Khan cruised through the match in straight sets, 11-5, 11-7, 11-4, displaying his superior agility and precision. The final against Ka Hei Ho proved to be a continuation of this dominance, as Khan controlled the tempo and flow of the game from the outset.
Throughout the tournament, Hamza Khan dropped only one game, underlining his superb form and mental focus.
