The federal government is preparing to launch Vision Pakistan 2047 on International Youth Day, August 12. Consequently, ministries have been asked to submit long-term development proposals within two weeks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to unveil the national vision document. The proposed strategy aims to guide Pakistan’s economic and social development over the next 21 years.
According to sources, ministries, attached departments, autonomous bodies, and subordinate offices have received directions to submit their recommendations. Moreover, the requested proposals cover economic transformation, human capital, technology, environmental sustainability, governance reforms, and sector-specific priorities.
Timeline Raises Questions
The short preparation period has raised concerns among officials and observers. They noted that long-term national strategies typically require months of research, consultations, and detailed policy analysis.
Furthermore, sources questioned why the Ministry of Planning was not leading the exercise. They also sought clarification on the role of the previously announced Vision 2047 Lab under URAAN Pakistan.
Government Highlights Youth Focus
The government said Vision Pakistan 2047 will provide a roadmap for long-term national development. It also aims to empower young people as drivers of economic growth, innovation, and national progress.
However, officials have not explained how a 21-year strategy will be finalised within two weeks. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme has asked ministries to submit their proposals promptly to support the document’s preparation before its planned launch.
