The federal government has increased the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs 2.24 per litre. Meanwhile, it has reduced the price of petrol by 75 paisas per litre.
The revised prices will take effect from July 30. The Petroleum Division issued the official notification on Wednesday.
Diesel Becomes Costlier, Petrol Gets Minor Relief
Following the latest revision, high-speed diesel will retail at Rs 390.62 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol will now cost Rs 335.06 per litre.
The diesel price has declined significantly from its peak of Rs 520.35 recorded on April 3. Similarly, petrol remains below its highest price of Rs 458.41 reached on the same date.
Petrol is widely used by private vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws. Therefore, changes in its price directly affect middle and lower-middle-income households.
Daily Fuel Pricing Policy Continues
Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced a daily fuel pricing mechanism. The government introduced the policy due to fluctuating international oil prices.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will now determine fuel prices based on global market trends. Previously, the government revised petroleum prices every week.
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Dealers Association rejected the daily pricing system. The association also announced plans to consider protests against the decision.
Diesel remains essential for heavy transport, power plants, and industrial generators. Consequently, changes in diesel prices significantly influence transport and logistics costs nationwide.
