ISLAMABAD: Rana Sanaullah, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, disclosed that the government is planning to unveil the 28th Constitutional Amendment following the approval of the 27th Amendment. He said the next amendment will address key issues, such as education, local government systems, and population growth.
Speaking on Geo News programme Capital Talk, PML-N leader emphasized that the government aims to strengthen grassroots governance and promote policy reforms in these sectors through constitutional backing.
27th Amendment Clears Senate, Moves to National Assembly
The Senate passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill on Monday with a two-thirds majority, aiming to restructure Pakistanโs military and judicial systems. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the 59-clause bill, securing 64 votes in the 96-member House. Opposition lawmakers boycotted the session and staged protests during the vote. On Tuesday, the Law Minister presented the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the National Assembly for approval.
Consensus Building for Future Amendments
Sanaullah said efforts were ongoing to advance local government matters and expand national consensus on reforms. He noted that the idea of Constitutional Courts was first proposed in the 2006 Charter of Democracy signed by PML-N and PPP. He added that changes in the militaryโs internal structure were essential to meet modern challenges.
Moreover, talking to mediaย personnel, Senator Faisal Vawda, also hinted at the next amendment, saying โget ready for the 28thโ.
NA debates 27th Amendment
The National Assembly has started a heated debate on the 27th Constitutional Amendment, introduced in the House on Tuesday. Law Minister Azam Tarrar presented the amendment in the Parliament, a day after Senate approved it.
PTI leader Barrister Gohar said that “it was Baku Amendment”. He pointed out that Prime Minister was sitting in Baku and he was giving orders from there for the approval of the amendment.
