Hike in gas prices
The caretaker government’s recent decision to implement a substantial 172 percent hike in gas prices for non-protected domestic consumers has elicited shock and outrage among the public.

Starting from November 1, these new prices are poised to impose a heavy financial burden on households already grappling with economic challenges.
According to the notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), the hike in gas prices is delineated for various consumption levels. For instance, consumers using 100 cubic meters of gas per month will now be charged Rs 1000, up from the previous rate of Rs 400. Those utilizing 150 cubic meters will witness their monthly cost surge from Rs 600 to Rs 1200.
Furthermore, the cost of 200 mmbtu of gas per month will rise to Rs 1600 from Rs 800, and for consumers using 300 mmbtu per month, the new monthly fee will be Rs 3000, significantly higher than the previous Rs 1100.
Consumers using 400 mmbtu of gas will see their monthly bill increase to Rs 3,500 from the previous rate of Rs 2,000. Meanwhile, for consumption exceeding 400 mmbtu per month, the cost will rise to Rs 4,000 from the previous Rs 3,100.
This unprecedented surge in gas prices is expected to have a devastating impact on household budgets, particularly affecting low-income families who heavily rely on natural gas for their cooking and heating needs.
