Google TV Freeplay is getting a major upgrade with thousands of free movies and TV shows. The service now lets users choose on-demand content instead of watching only live channels.
The new library features more than 10,000 movies and TV shows. Users can access the content directly through Google TV without downloading additional streaming apps.
Freeplay Expands Beyond Live Television
Google added the on-demand library through partnerships with content providers, including A24 and Lionsgate. The company also introduced dedicated “Live TV” and “Free movies & shows” tabs.
These tabs make it easier for users to switch between live channels and on-demand content. Google said the new feature will begin rolling out this week.
The initial rollout will focus on Google TV devices in the United States. Availability in other markets has not been announced.
Google TV Freeplay Adds More Viewing Choices
The expansion builds on Freeplay’s existing collection of free live channels. Google said the service now offers more than 300 channels.
Freeplay passed 250 channels in December 2025 as Google continued expanding its free streaming platform. The latest update gives users greater control over their viewing choices.
Google TV Freeplay remains an ad-supported service built into Google TV devices. It now combines hundreds of live channels with more than 10,000 free on-demand titles.
The update strengthens Google’s position in the growing free streaming market. It also gives viewers more options without requiring separate streaming subscriptions.
