ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices have been reduced across the country after a new notification was issued on Tuesday. Consumers will get relief of Rs1.99 per unit under the latest adjustment. The decision applies nationwide and also includes K-Electric consumers.
Nationwide tariff relief strengthens consumer cost savings this summer
According to officials, the reduction was approved under the quarterly adjustment mechanism by the regulator. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority confirmed the decision and forwarded it for government notification. The adjustment period covers January to March 2026, while implementation will run from June to August 2026. The relief is estimated at over Rs67.17 billion for consumers. Authorities said the move aims to stabilize sector cash flows and reflect actual generation costs. They added that billing adjustments will appear automatically in monthly electricity bills. It also ensures consistency across distribution companies, including K-Electric.
Regulatory changes balance fuel costs and quarterly revisions
Officials said earlier that a separate fuel cost adjustment had increased tariffs by Rs1.19 per unit. This latest cut offsets some of the earlier burden on consumers. They added that monthly and quarterly adjustments reflect changing generation costs.
Power prices continue to depend on fuel import trends and system efficiency. Analysts say such revisions are common in tariff cycles and help align pricing with market realities. Consumers are expected to see mixed impacts depending on usage patterns while regulators monitor the overall energy balance.
Consumers are expected to benefit over the next three months as the tariff reduction remains in effect. Authorities say monitoring will continue to ensure transparent pricing in the energy sector. Officials also said future adjustments will depend on fuel import prices and demand trends going forward.
