Pakistan’s veteran shooter Ghulam Mustafa Bashir secured a bronze medal in the men’s 25-metre rapid-fire pistol event at the Asian Games in Nagoya.
Bashir finished third with 22 points after delivering a composed performance in the eight-man final at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery.
The achievement gave Pakistan its first shooting medal at the ongoing Games and marked Bashir’s first Asian Games medal. It also became Pakistan’s second medal in the event’s history.
Kishmala Talat had previously won bronze in shooting at the Hangzhou Asian Games, giving Pakistan another podium finish in the discipline.
South Korea’s Lee Gunhyeok claimed the gold medal after scoring 32 points. China’s Su Lianbofan also finished with 32 points but settled for silver after losing the shoot-off.
Vietnam’s Pham Quang Huy finished fourth with 20 points, while Indonesia’s Suteja Dewa Putu Yadi secured fifth place with 18.
South Korea’s Yoon Seoyeong finished sixth after recording 12 points. India’s Anish took seventh place with 11 points, while Kazakhstan’s Nikita Chiryukin finished eighth with seven points.
Bashir’s bronze adds to Pakistan’s medal tally and provides another notable result for the country’s shooting contingent at the Asian Games. His disciplined performance in the high-pressure final helped him secure a place on the podium and end Pakistan’s wait for its first shooting medal of the Games.
