Germany has provided Ukraine with a new support package worth more than €1.3 billion, or approximately $1.46 billion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday.
The announcement followed talks between Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during Merz’s unannounced visit to Kyiv. The German leader said he traveled to the Ukrainian capital with a message that Ukraine could rely on Germany.
According to Zelenskyy, the package includes weapons and assistance for Ukraine’s energy sector as the country prepares for the coming winter. He also highlighted the need for stronger air defence capabilities, which Kyiv considers critical amid continued Russian attacks.
Ukraine and Germany signed 15 agreements and other documents covering security cooperation, defence production, weapons procurement, German industrial orders and joint projects inside Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said the overall value of the agreements signed during the visit exceeded €8.5 billion. He added that another agreement would strengthen cooperation between the two countries on countering drone threats.
The German support comes as Ukraine continues to face the prolonged conflict with Russia and prepares for another difficult winter. Energy infrastructure has remained a key concern as Kyiv seeks additional protection against attacks targeting critical facilities.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said the United States was working with both Ukraine and Russia to arrange another round of negotiations aimed at ending the war.
He said Washington had proposed a trilateral meeting at the technical level by the end of October. The proposed talks would involve representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the United States.
The latest German commitments underline Berlin’s continued military, energy and industrial support for Kyiv as diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain ongoing.
