The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has postponed the upcoming local government elections by seven days.
The decision will give the provincial government additional time to finalise proposed amendments to the Local Government Act 2014.
According to the commission, officials requested more time to complete the proposed legal changes. The commission agreed to provide an additional seven-day period.
Election Schedule to Be Revised
The commission said authorities will revise all election stages affected by the postponement. It will incorporate the revised dates into a fresh election schedule.
Polling had previously been scheduled for September 27. However, voters will now cast their ballots on a new date.
The Election Commission said it will announce the revised election programme after the seven-day period ends.
Government Gets More Time for Amendments
The provincial government will use the additional period to complete the proposed amendments. Officials are expected to finalise the changes before the commission issues its new schedule.
The postponement means candidates and voters must wait for updated dates. Meanwhile, the commission will prepare the revised programme after receiving the government’s final position.
Authorities have not announced the new polling date yet. The commission is expected to provide further details once the seven-day extension concludes.
