Gilgit-Baltistan will hold general elections today amid strict security arrangements. Authorities completed all electoral and security preparations before polling day.
The Election Commission confirmed polling for 24 assembly seats. Voting will continue from 8am until 5pm across the region. Officials established 1,391 polling stations for the electoral process.
According to official classifications, 488 polling stations are normal. Meanwhile, 349 stations fall under the sensitive category. Additionally, authorities declared 551 polling stations highly sensitive.
Districts Receive Extensive Election Arrangements
Gilgit district has 253 polling stations across different security categories. Ghizer follows with 207 polling stations for voters. Nagar has 85 polling stations, while Hunza has 88.
Skardu contains 208 polling stations throughout the district. Similarly, Shigar has 71 polling stations for the election. Kharmang will operate 43 polling stations during polling hours.
Ghanche has 154 polling stations across various locations. Furthermore, Astore includes 108 polling stations for registered voters. Authorities also established 174 polling stations in Diamer district.
Diamer Records Highest Number of Sensitive Stations
Diamer has 119 highly sensitive polling stations. This figure represents the highest number among all districts. Consequently, authorities increased security measures across the district.
Officials finalized enhanced security plans for vulnerable locations. Law enforcement agencies will remain alert throughout the election process. Moreover, authorities deployed additional personnel at sensitive polling stations.
Gilgit-Baltistan Inspector General of Police Nasir Akbar Khan addressed the media. He confirmed extensive security arrangements for the elections. According to the police chief, more than 17,500 personnel will perform duties.
Police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies remain on alert. Furthermore, authorities strengthened security at high-risk polling locations. Officials aim to ensure peaceful and transparent elections across Gilgit-Baltistan.
