The GB Election Security Duty operation has intensified ahead of Sunday’s general elections. Authorities have assigned 150 Islamabad police personnel for election security. Officials have also deployed 6,000 Punjab police personnel for the task. In total, around 2,000 personnel will serve in Gilgit-Baltistan. Election campaigns by major political parties are already underway. Therefore, authorities have strengthened security arrangements across the region.
The selected Islamabad police personnel currently perform sensitive security assignments. They guard important government buildings and installations in the capital. Moreover, they provide security escorts for visiting foreign delegations. Officials confirmed that the personnel will depart on Thursday. They will return to Islamabad on June 9 after completing duties.
Islamabad Police Strengthen Election Security Efforts
The deployed personnel come from several important security units. Thirty officers belong to the Special Protection Unit. Additionally, personnel have been selected from the President’s House and Prime Minister’s House. Officers from the Prime Minister’s Office also joined the deployment. Furthermore, personnel from the Foreign Office and high-security zones will participate.
The security division protects several high-profile government locations. These sites include the National Assembly and District Judicial Complex. The division also provides security to foreign delegations. Its Special Protection Unit additionally safeguards Chinese nationals in Islamabad.
Punjab Police Convoys Depart Under Tight Security
Meanwhile, Punjab police convoys have started travelling to Gilgit-Baltistan. Armed police escorts accompany the convoys throughout the journey. Rescue 1122 ambulances also travel alongside for emergency assistance. Authorities instructed escort teams to ensure uninterrupted protection.
A convoy carrying 1,028 Punjab Highway Patrol personnel departed from Rawalpindi. Furthermore, authorities arranged more than 100 buses and vehicles. Each bus will carry anti-riot equipment and seasonal supplies. The GB Election Security Duty operation reflects extensive preparations. Consequently, authorities aim to ensure peaceful and secure elections throughout Gilgit-Baltistan.
