Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur has claimed that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made the most serious efforts for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Gandapur said Naqvi worked harder than anyone else to resolve the issue. He made these remarks during an interview with a private news channel. His statement comes amid rising political tensions in Pakistan.
“I have said this before within the party. Now I am saying it publicly,” Gandapur stated. He emphasized that Naqvi made vigorous and sustained attempts to secure Khan’s release. He added that no one else showed similar seriousness.
The remarks are significant. They come at a time when political divisions remain sharp. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023. His detention continues to dominate national politics.
Health Concerns After Supreme Court Medical Report
The controversy intensified after a medical report was submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The report was presented by Khan’s counsel and court-appointed amicus curiae Salman Safdar.
The report confirmed that Imran Khan has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). CRVO is a serious eye condition. It is often linked to high blood pressure and heart disease. It is more common in older individuals.
According to the report, Khan has lost about 85 percent of vision in his right eye. The revelation alarmed PTI leaders and his family. They demanded that he be moved to a hospital for proper treatment.
However, separate sources said that a team of specialist doctors examined Khan. The doctors were from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and Al-Shifa International Hospital. They reportedly expressed satisfaction with his condition. They noted improvement in his eyesight.
Despite these claims, concerns continue within PTI circles. Gandapur said he finds it difficult to fully trust medical reports. He cited past experiences as the reason for his caution. He added that doubts increase when family members and senior leaders are not allowed to meet Khan.
Gandapur Says Naqvi Spoke Before Field Marshal Asim Munir
In his interview, Gandapur also made another key claim. He said Mohsin Naqvi even spoke in support of Imran Khan in front of Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir. He referred to him as Field Marshal.
Gandapur said no one else dared to do that. He described Naqvi as the only person capable of engaging the Field Marshal in conversation on the issue.
He admitted that PTI had earlier been upset with Naqvi. He said Imran Khan himself was angry with him in the past. However, Gandapur now acknowledges Naqvi’s efforts.
At the same time, he clarified that he currently has no contact with the interior minister. He said he holds no official position to formally discuss the matter.
Gandapur also pointed to internal divisions within PTI. He said the party is facing a lack of clear decision-making. This, he added, has complicated its response to ongoing developments.
The statements have added a new dimension to Pakistan’s political debate. Discussions over Imran Khan’s health and legal status continue to dominate headlines.
