Petrol Jumps to Rs331.20, Diesel Climbs Above Rs390 Per Litre
The federal government has increased petrol and high-speed diesel prices again, adding fresh pressure on motorists, transporters and businesses already dealing with expensive fuel.
According to the latest fuel price update, the price of motor spirit petrol has been increased by Rs5.77 per litre.
Petrol will now cost Rs331.20 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs325.43.
High-speed diesel has received an even larger increase.
The price of diesel has been raised by Rs6.47 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs390.42 per litre.
Before the latest revision, petrol was priced at Rs325.43 per litre and diesel at Rs383.95 per litre. Those rates were also reflected in fuel-price information available over the Independence Day period.
The latest increase comes under Pakistan’s new system of frequent fuel-price revisions, which has resulted in repeated changes in petrol and diesel rates since July.
The higher prices are expected to increase transportation costs across the country.
Diesel prices are particularly important because high-speed diesel is extensively used by trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and commercial transport.
Any major increase can therefore affect freight charges, food transportation, agricultural production and eventually consumer prices.
Petrol increases directly affect millions of motorcycle and car users, particularly daily commuters.
Fuel Prices Have Changed Repeatedly Since Daily Revisions Began
Fuel prices have remained highly volatile since the government moved toward more frequent revisions.
Petrol was priced at Rs310.71 per litre before the daily pricing period listed in the available data.
High-speed diesel was then priced at Rs323.30 per litre.
Since then, both products have experienced repeated increases and reductions.
The latest petrol rate of Rs331.20 is Rs20.49 higher than the Rs310.71 level recorded before the listed daily revisions.
Diesel has increased even more sharply.
The new diesel rate of Rs390.42 is Rs67.12 higher than the earlier Rs323.30 level.
The movement has not been consistently upward.
Petrol reached Rs336.15 per litre on July 30 before declining during early August.
Diesel climbed above Rs393 per litre during the same period before falling temporarily.
Recent reductions brought petrol back to Rs325.43 and diesel to Rs383.95 before the latest increase reversed part of those declines.
The repeated changes have made fuel expenses increasingly difficult to predict for households and businesses.
Transport operators are particularly exposed because fuel represents one of their largest operating expenses.
Businesses dependent on road freight can also face higher distribution costs when diesel becomes more expensive.

The August 13 rates and earlier daily revisions are consistent with the published fuel-price record from the previous update.
The latest increase means consumers will once again face higher costs at fuel stations.
The impact could extend beyond motorists if transporters and businesses pass higher diesel expenses on through increased fares and freight charges.
Continued volatility in petroleum prices will remain important for inflation, transportation costs and household budgets in the coming days.
