Government Announces Major Relief in Petroleum Prices
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in petroleum prices on Friday, offering relief to citizens after months of high inflation. In a televised address, he confirmed that high-speed diesel prices had been reduced by Rs135 per litre, bringing the new rate down from Rs520 to Rs385. Meanwhile, petrol prices were cut by Rs12 per litre and will now be available at Rs366.
The prime minister explained that the decision followed a decline in global oil prices. He added that the government remained committed to passing on the benefit of international price drops to the public. Furthermore, he acknowledged the financial strain faced by citizens due to rising living costs in recent months. Therefore, this move aims to ease the burden on households and businesses across the country.
Pakistan to Host Key US-Iran Talks in Islamabad
In addition to the economic announcement, Shehbaz Sharif revealed that Pakistan will host high-level talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad. He stated that both countries accepted his proposal for dialogue and their leadership would arrive in the capital soon. As a result, Pakistan is set to play a central diplomatic role in ongoing regional developments.
The prime minister described this development as a moment of pride for the nation. Moreover, he emphasized that such efforts contribute to peace not only in Pakistan but across the wider Muslim world. He also thanked the leadership of both countries for their willingness to engage in dialogue. Consequently, expectations are high that these talks could help reduce tensions and promote stability.
Focus on Peace Efforts and Future Challenges
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistanโs role in facilitating a temporary ceasefire between the two sides. He praised the efforts of military leadership, including Syed Asim Munir, for supporting peace initiatives. In addition, he noted that diplomatic engagement remains the only effective path forward.
However, the prime minister warned that achieving a lasting ceasefire would be more challenging than securing an initial truce. He described the upcoming phase as critical and urged the nation to pray for successful negotiations. Meanwhile, preparations in Islamabad are underway to host the talks, which are widely viewed as important for regional peace and global energy stability.
Overall, the announcement reflects a combination of economic relief measures and active diplomatic engagement by Pakistanโs leadership.
