Transporters Increase Freight Charges After Diesel Crosses Rs403
Goods transporters across Pakistan have increased freight charges by up to 40 percent following repeated fuel price hikes by the Petroleum Division.
The rise in transportation costs comes after five consecutive increases in petroleum prices, with high-speed diesel reaching around Rs403 per litre and petrol climbing close to Rs376 per litre.
Container transport rates from Karachi to Peshawar have now crossed Rs900,000, while local and intercity transport services have also increased charges by up to 27 percent.
Higher Transport Costs Threaten Food Prices
Transport operators say the increase in fuel prices has made daily operations more expensive, forcing them to revise freight rates.
The latest increase is expected to raise the cost of transporting essential goods, including food items, vegetables, fruits and other commodities across the country.
Industry representatives warned that higher logistics costs could create additional pressure on consumers already facing rising expenses.
Authorities Review Fare Hikes Amid Transporter Warning
The Rawalpindi Regional Transport Authority has called a meeting with transporters to discuss the revised fares.
Officials have directed action against operators charging increased rates without official approval.
Meanwhile, the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association has warned of a strong response if the government does not reconsider the recent fuel price increases.
