Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to dominate the North American box office, securing the top spot for a fourth consecutive weekend.
However, the Marvel superhero film experienced a significant drop in ticket sales compared with the previous weekend. The Tom Holland and Zendaya-led movie earned $39 million during its latest weekend.
That figure represents a 45% decline from its previous weekend’s earnings. Despite the drop, the film continues to draw large audiences across the United States and Canada.
Since its July 31 release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned $854.9 million domestically. The movie has also generated another $1.37 billion from international markets.
Insidious Opens in Second Place
Sony Pictures’ Insidious: Out of the Further claimed second place during its opening weekend. The sixth installment in the horror franchise earned $25.3 million.
The film stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers. Its story follows a young woman who can bring spirits into the human world.
However, she also finds herself haunted by supernatural forces. The film’s opening performance has been described as solid for the latest entry in the long-running franchise.
Industry analyst David Gross noted that the movie’s debut was lower than the previous installment. Nevertheless, he described the decline as typical for horror sequels.
The Odyssey Remains Among Top Performers
Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey moved down to third place. The film collected $19.5 million during its sixth weekend.
Its latest earnings marked a 17% decline from the previous weekend. Despite the decrease, the movie has now earned $539.1 million in North America.
The film continues to maintain a strong presence in the domestic box office. Its performance has kept it among the weekend’s leading releases.
Paw Patrol and The End of Oak Street Follow
Paramount Pictures’ Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie secured fourth place. The animated film earned $9.1 million during its second weekend.
Its latest total represented a 55% decline from its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Warner Bros’ science-fiction thriller The End of Oak Street finished fifth.
The film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a couple struggling to survive after their neighbourhood is transported into prehistoric times.
The movie collected $9 million during the weekend. Its earnings fell 57% compared with the previous weekend.
Remaining Films in the Top 10
Several other films rounded out the North American box office rankings.
Mutiny earned $7.5 million to finish sixth. Tony followed in seventh place with $5 million.
Meanwhile, Spa Weekend and The Fast and the Furious each collected $3.1 million. They shared eighth and ninth positions.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma completed the top 10 with $1.9 million.
Overall, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains the dominant force at the North American box office. Despite a sharp weekly decline, its massive domestic and international earnings continue to set it apart from the competition.
