A four-storey under-construction building collapsed in Karachi’s Lyari Nayaabad area, officials said. Fortunately, authorities reported no casualties.
Union Council Nayaabad Chairman Aslam Memon provided details about the building. He said the structure had remained vacant for approximately one month.
According to Memon, the building stood in an old condition before demolition work began. The builder started demolition activities before the structure suddenly collapsed.
However, the collapse caused damage to another nearby building. Memon said the building opposite the collapsed structure sustained even greater damage.
Debris Blocks Access To Nearby Building
Meanwhile, heavy debris spread across the area after the building collapsed. The rubble also blocked the entrance to the adjacent building.
As a result, residents faced difficulties while trying to enter or leave the premises. The debris also created obstacles for people accessing the affected building.
Authorities have not reported any casualties from the collapse so far. They also have not released further details about ownership or construction status.
Officials Yet To Confirm Investigation Into Collapse
Furthermore, authorities have yet to confirm whether officials launched an investigation. They have also not explained what caused the building to collapse.
The incident raises concerns about safety during demolition work in densely populated parts of Karachi. Such collapses can create serious risks for nearby residents and buildings.
Authorities may now assess the damage and determine whether demolition followed required safety procedures. They could also examine surrounding structures.
For now, officials have provided limited information about the incident. Residents remain concerned about access and safety around the affected site.
