Four Pakistani nationals, including two brothers and their two workers, were shot dead in a targeted attack in South Africa’s Kempton Park. The tragic incident took place Saturday evening in Chloorkop, Kempton Park. The victims returned home after closing their businesses in South Africa.
The brothers were identified as Sajid Ahmad and Zafar Ahmad and they belonged to Bullar village in Mandi Bahauddin district in Punjab province.
All four men owned or worked at spaza shops in Tembisa.
Police describe deadly roadside attack
According to Gauteng police, the victims were traveling in a Honda Ballade when the attack occurred. They had stopped at a traffic light near Zuurfontein and Orangerivier roads when two unidentified men approached.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the suspects arrived in a white sedan. They then exited the vehicle and opened fire. The driver attempted to flee but lost control and crashed into a traffic island. Consequently, all four occupants died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police have not determined the motive for the attack. No arrests have been made, while investigations continue.
Community mourns Pakistani victims
Hayat Khan, president of the Pakistan South Africa Association’s KwaZulu-Natal chapter, expressed shock over the killings. He offered condolences to the victims’ families and said the men died while working to earn an honest living.
Furthermore, Khan said such violence causes deep pain for families and creates fear across the wider community.
