Four people were killed and seven others injured after a passenger van collided with a dumper in Lower Dir on Sunday.
Rescue 1122 confirmed the accident occurred near Tunnel No. 3 on the Swat Motorway. The collision happened in Malakand, leaving four passengers dead at the scene. Meanwhile, rescue teams quickly reached the location and began emergency operations.
Four Victims Die at Accident Site
Motorway police identified the deceased as 81-year-old Faiz, 58-year-old Shaista Noor, 52-year-old Aziz Khan, and 31-year-old Hamidaan Ajab. The collision badly damaged the front section of the passenger van.
Additionally, seven people sustained injuries in the crash. Two injured passengers received treatment at the scene because they suffered minor injuries. However, rescuers shifted the remaining five injured people to District Headquarters Hospital Batkhela.
Rescue 1122 medical teams from Malakand arrived with ambulances and provided immediate assistance. Furthermore, motorway police supported the rescue operation and helped transport the victims.
Police Blame Van Driver Negligence
Authorities also shifted the bodies of the deceased to DHQ Hospital Batkhela. Police officials later stated that the accident resulted from the Hiace driver’s negligence and carelessness.
Following the tragic incident, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the loss of lives. He offered condolences to the families and said they shared their sorrow during the difficult period.
Kundi also prayed for the deceased and expressed hope for their elevation in ranks. Moreover, he directed that injured passengers receive the best available medical treatment.
The governor also prayed for the injured passengersโ speedy recovery. Meanwhile, authorities continued documenting the accident and examining circumstances surrounding the collision.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by careless driving on busy highways. Authorities continue urging motorists to follow traffic rules and maintain caution while travelling.
