BRUSSELS: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed his appreciation for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its instrumental role in advancing the peaceful use of nuclear technology and for organizing the significant Nuclear Energy Summit, which served as a major platform for discussing issues related to nuclear energy.
During a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi on the sidelines of the Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s deep appreciation for the Agency’s work as a founding member, emphasizing its indispensable significance in global nuclear governance.
Dar further emphasized the indispensable role of nuclear energy in addressing the pressing challenge of climate change, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to augmenting the share of nuclear energy in its energy mix as part of its sustainable development agenda.
Highlighting the importance of the IAEA’s technical cooperation initiatives, Dar underscored Pakistan’s substantial contributions to these efforts. He urged for increased support from international financial institutions and banks to bolster nuclear energy projects in developing countries striving to meet their energy needs while aiming for zero emissions targets.
Moreover, Dar urged the IAEA to continue its efforts in raising awareness about the merits of nuclear energy as a clean and sustainable energy source on a global scale.
The IAEA Director General commended Pakistan for its collaboration with the agency, acknowledging its significant role in sharing expertise and knowledge with other developing nations. Grossi recognized the financial challenges associated with nuclear projects and pledged to engage with international financial institutions to address these concerns.
Reflecting on his visit to Pakistan in the previous year, Grossi fondly recalled witnessing Pakistan’s advancements in peaceful nuclear technology and visiting its state-of-the-art facilities, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to the safe and responsible use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
