The United States (US) denied entry to Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Ahsan Wagan, deporting him from Los Angeles Airport despite his valid visa and necessary travel documents.
According to diplomatic sources, Wagan was detained upon arrival at the Los Angeles Airport while on a private visit before being sent back. The exact reason for his deportation remains unclear, but some sources speculate that it may be linked to allegations of administrative corruption during his previous diplomatic assignment in the US.
A seasoned diplomat, Ahsan Wagan has held several key positions in Pakistan’s Foreign Service. His previous assignments include serving as minister and chargé d’affaires in Niamey, Niger; deputy consul general in Los Angeles; deputy chief of mission and later ambassador in Muscat, Oman; and second secretary at Pakistan’s embassy in Kathmandu. He has also overseen crisis management and consular affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.
In response to the incident, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) issued a statement clarifying that Wagan’s trip was private in nature. The FO further stated that an inquiry is underway to ascertain more details regarding the situation.
This development comes amid growing speculation that the US may soon introduce new travel restrictions affecting multiple countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
