The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a flash flood advisory for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The warning applies from January 21 to January 24 due to an incoming western weather system. Authorities expect widespread rain and snowfall across upper regions during this period.
As a result, water levels in rivers and streams may rise rapidly. Officials have urged administrations to take precautionary measures immediately.
Kabul River Levels Expected to Rise
According to disaster management officials, sustained rainfall may increase flows in the Kabul River and its tributaries.
This situation raises the risk of flash flooding, especially in vulnerable and low-lying areas. Therefore, monitoring of river conditions has been intensified.
Residents living near riverbanks have been advised to remain cautious. Authorities stressed the importance of early action to prevent loss of life and property.
High-Risk Districts Placed on Alert
The advisory highlights several districts facing increased flood risk. These include Swat, Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Buner, and Shangla.
Other nearby districts may also experience localized flooding. Consequently, district administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert.
Officials directed local authorities to monitor sensitive locations closely. They also emphasized readiness in areas prone to landslides and water accumulation.
Emergency Services Put on Standby
The disaster authority has placed emergency response teams on full alert. Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and related departments must remain ready throughout the forecast period.
These teams have been instructed to ensure rapid response capabilities. Equipment and personnel availability must remain uninterrupted during the alert days.
Moreover, coordination among departments has been strengthened to ensure swift action if conditions worsen.
Evacuation and Public Safety Measures
District administrations have received instructions to identify vulnerable populations. Authorities must ensure timely evacuation if flooding threats escalate.
Residents near the Kabul River have been urged to adopt safety measures. They should avoid unnecessary travel near waterways during heavy rainfall.
The disaster authority stated it will continue monitoring weather conditions closely. It will also share timely updates with all relevant departments. These steps aim to minimize risks and protect public safety across upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
