LAHORE: Five people were killed after a speeding car went out of control and struck pedestrians before crashing into a tree in Harbanspura on Saturday.
The victims included three car occupants and two pedestrians, while an injured child also received treatment after the accident.
Police identified the deceased as Muzammil, 15, Nauman, 18, Abdul Rehman, 20, Furqan, 17, and Junaid, 19.
Rescue 1122 personnel shifted the bodies and injured child to Services Hospital following the incident.
Police said the child had been jogging on the footpath with his mother and brother when the vehicle struck them.
His brother died in the accident, according to authorities.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122’s initial findings indicated excessive speed as the main cause of the crash.
Traffic Police said the driver lost control before the vehicle hit pedestrians and then crashed into a tree.
City Traffic Officer Abdul Raheem Shirazi took notice and sought an investigation report from the City Zone SSP.
Four Injured in Separate Crash
Separately, four people suffered injuries when a speeding car collided with a rickshaw near Gohawa village.
Rescue teams shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, traffic police impounded more than 3,000 motorcycles driven by underage and young riders during a Friday night operation.
Authorities also registered cases involving wheelie riding, road stunts, road blockages and car drifting.
In another incident, a labourer died after accidentally touching an 11-kilovolt high-voltage wire while working on a roof near Laliyani Phattak. He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
