Legal proceedings have been launched against five individuals accused of spreading false and inflammatory content online during the recent escalation in tensions between Pakistan and India, according to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
A spokesperson for the agency confirmed that First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered under relevant cybercrime laws. The individuals are suspected of running a coordinated disinformation campaign targeting key state institutions, including the armed forces and senior government officials.
“The accused were actively engaged in disseminating fabricated and misleading information intended to undermine public trust in national institutions,” the spokesperson said.
The FIRs state that the online materials circulated by the suspects incited public unrest and attempted to sow distrust toward the military and other high-level state bodies. Authorities believe the content was designed to provoke fear, confusion, and destabilize public confidence in the government during a sensitive geopolitical period.
Investigators claim the online activity contributed to heightened anxiety and sought to weaken the state by promoting divisive narratives.
The NCCIA has begun formal legal action against the accused following the registration of the cases, with further proceedings underway.
