ISLAMABAD: The case of kidnapping for ransom has led to the involvement of five Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials, as the agency launched an investigation following a complaint registered by the victim.

The issue came to light when a Lahore resident, identified as Majid, lodged a complaint with the FIA cyber crime cell. He reported that he had been abducted from Haripur by individuals named Inspector Waqas, Fakhar, Abbas, Musadiq, and Hamza. They held him captive for two days and demanded a ransom of Rs30 million. Majid further stated that these officers had interrogated him on various sports websites and subjected him to physical torture.
According to sources, all the accused were contractual employees of the FIA, and they also threatened the victim following his complaint to the cyber crime cell. It was noted that Inspector Waqas and Inspector Musadiq had gone to Haripur under false pretenses, claiming to be on a special assignment at the advice of the Additional Director.
Official recommendations have been made to terminate the employment of the accused officers, as the case is substantiated by evidence showing that they had amassed assets beyond their legitimate income within a short span of time.
However, despite the presence of CCTV footage, it has been revealed that the FIA’s cybercrime group has not faced any punitive action.
