Saudi authorities have extinguished a fire at an Aramco facility in Jazan, the Energy Ministry said Sunday. Officials reported no injuries following the incident.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control shortly after it started early Sunday. Aramco’s industrial security teams contained the fire, while relevant authorities completed response procedures.
The ministry did not disclose the cause of the fire. Officials also continued assessing the facility after extinguishing the blaze.
The Jazan refinery processes around 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily. It produces refined products including gasoline and ultra-light sulfur diesel.
Refinery Previously Closed After Houthi Attack
Aramco shut the refinery on July 27 following an attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The attack reportedly damaged the facility’s gasification complex and tank farm area.
Consultancy IIR reported the damage in a note seen by Reuters. The Houthis said they had targeted Aramco facilities in Jazan and Yanbu.
The attacks raised concerns about wider disruptions to Saudi oil infrastructure. They also increased fears surrounding shipping routes in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, regional tensions have already affected global energy markets. The US-Israeli war on Iran and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz have increased those concerns.
Aramco Reports Limited Impact From Attacks
Aramco chief Amin Nasser said recent attacks caused some production interruptions. However, he expressed confidence that the company could restore operations quickly.
Nasser also said the attacks had not created a material operational or financial impact. The company therefore expects to maintain its broader operations despite recent incidents.
Authorities will continue investigating Sunday’s fire and its possible cause. No injuries have been reported in connection with the latest incident.
The development comes as regional energy infrastructure faces heightened security concerns. Further incidents could increase pressure on already-sensitive global oil markets.
