ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Imran Sarwar discussed the banking sector’s role in supporting Pakistan’s financial and economic priorities.
The finance minister visited NBP’s head office in Karachi, where he congratulated Sarwar on his appointment and wished him success in his new position, according to an official press release.
NBP Chairman Naved A. Khan also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, Sarwar briefed Aurangzeb on the bank’s ongoing initiatives and performance. He highlighted efforts to promote women’s financial inclusion and increase their participation in economic activities.
The NBP chief also outlined measures aimed at accelerating the bank’s digital transformation and expanding financial support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Sarwar further informed the minister about steps being taken to improve customer services and enhance facilities for NBP clients.
The meeting also covered issues concerning the bank’s operations and broader challenges facing Pakistan’s financial sector.
The discussions come as the government continues to focus on strengthening the financial system, expanding access to banking services and supporting businesses through improved financial facilities.
The federal government appointed Imran Sarwar as NBP president and chief executive officer for a three-year term, effective immediately, through a Finance Division notification issued on September 3.
His appointment comes as NBP continues efforts to expand digital banking, improve customer services and support greater financial inclusion across the country.
