Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty held an important meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir during his two-day visit to Pakistan. The discussion focused on expanding defence cooperation, enhancing military exchanges and strengthening regional stability. Consequently, both sides reaffirmed the value of sustained high-level engagement between their armed forces.
High-Level Defence Talks at GHQ
During the meeting at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Field Marshal Munir and the Egyptian foreign minister reviewed ongoing cooperation. They also discussed new opportunities in military training and professional exchanges. Their conversation underscored the shared belief that deeper defence collaboration would support peace in the region.
Because the visit carried significant diplomatic weight, further meetings were also arranged with Pakistan’s political leadership. These engagements highlighted the broader agenda behind the foreign minister’s trip.
Meetings With Pakistan’s Leadership
During the two-day visit, the Egyptian foreign minister met President Asif Ali Zardari, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Additionally, delegation-level talks were held to review bilateral matters across defence, trade and political coordination.
After the discussions, Pakistan announced a plan to share a list of 250 business enterprises with Egypt. These firms were selected through a transparent process for inclusion in Egypt’s “white list,” which aims to expand trade cooperation. Moreover, another list of 250 firms will be prepared within six months, raising the total to 500.
Strengthening Trade and Business Mechanisms
Both countries agreed to establish a Pakistan–Egypt Business Council to provide structure to their trade collaboration. Furthermore, a new facilitation mechanism will address visa-related issues and improve travel between the two nations. This step aims to support smoother business movement and encourage future investments.
Political consultations will also take place in Pakistan during the first quarter of 2026. The second round will be held in Cairo in the following quarter. For the first time since 2010, both sides agreed to convene the Joint Ministerial Commission in 2026, which will further strengthen institutional cooperation.
Egypt Expresses Support Against Terrorism
During the visit, Egypt’s foreign minister expressed deep condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan. He stressed that Egypt stands in full solidarity with Pakistan’s fight against terrorism. Additionally, he highlighted that both countries face similar economic, political and security challenges, which creates a strong basis for increased cooperation.
The minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s desire to elevate the relationship to a strategic level. According to him, peace and stability remain the core pillars of the partnership. He emphasised that Egypt aims to enhance collaboration in all fields under the guidance of their top leadership.
