Smuggled Diesel
LAHORE: Under the directives of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Smuggling Unit launched an operation in Lahore, resulting in the recovery of a substantial amount of smuggled Iranian diesel, on Sunday.
The Anti-Smuggling Unit, acting on orders from Minister Naqvi, conducted a raid and successfully seized a significant cache of smuggled diesel. In total, 43,000 liters of Iranian diesel were confiscated, and the warehouse involved was promptly sealed off.
Following the seizure, the FIA sent a sample of the smuggled diesel to a laboratory for further analysis. Subsequent actions will be determined based on the findings of the forensic report.
A spokesperson for the FIA Anti-Smuggling Unit disclosed that the operation was conducted in collaboration with Customs officials, underscoring the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating smuggling activities.
This recent bust in Lahore follows a similar crackdown conducted in April along Hub River Road in Karachi, where law enforcement authorities seized a substantial amount of smuggled goods, including Iranian diesel, worth millions.
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza, five individuals were apprehended in connection with the illicit trade during the Karachi operation.
The seized goods, valued at billions, included a diverse range of items such as cigarettes, cloth, copper, juice, and dry milk.
The confiscated goods were discovered concealed within two buses and an oil tanker, indicating the sophisticated methods employed by smugglers to traffic illicit goods through the area.
These enforcement efforts underscore the government’s commitment to combatting smuggling activities and safeguarding national interests.
By targeting illicit trade networks and confiscating smuggled goods, law enforcement agencies aim to disrupt criminal operations and maintain the integrity of the country’s economy and security.
