ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) initiated an inquiry against Aleema Khan, the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, for alleged involvement in inciting violence.
The FIA has taken this step based on accusations of cybercrime, incitement of violence, and hate speech. An inquiry notice has been issued, summoning her to the cybercrime reporting center on February 3 to provide her perspective and clarify her statements.
Failure to appear before the FIA on the specified date may result in the investigation authority interpreting her absence as an indication of having nothing to contribute to her defense.
It is noteworthy that the legal challenges for Aleema Khan’s brother, Imran Khan, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, escalated recently. An accountability court handed them a 14-year jail sentence in the Toshakhana case. Beyond imprisonment, the court also disqualified Imran Khan from holding any public office for the next decade.
Furthermore, a substantial fine of Rs1.573 billion was imposed on the couple as part of the verdict. The unfolding legal developments highlight the intensification of legal scrutiny on individuals associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and underscore the broader implications on the political landscape.
The investigation against Aleema Khan adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing legal challenges faced by individuals within the political sphere in Pakistan.
