The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially started receiving annual income tax returns for Tax Year 2026. Taxpayers across Pakistan can now submit their returns, with the filing process beginning on July 27, 2026.
According to the FBR, eligible taxpayers must complete the filing process before the September 30, 2026 deadline.
FBR Begins Receiving Tax Year 2026 Returns
FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial announced the commencement of annual income tax return filing for Tax Year 2026.
Following the announcement, taxpayers across the country became eligible to submit their annual returns from July 27.
The FBR has urged eligible individuals to complete the process within the prescribed timeframe to comply with tax laws.
Tax Returns Cover Financial Year 2025-26
According to the Federal Board of Revenue, the annual income tax returns cover the financial period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
All eligible taxpayers are required to file returns for this period before the closing date of September 30, 2026.
The filing process applies to taxpayers covered under Pakistan’s income tax laws.
Returns to Be Filed Under Income Tax Ordinance
The FBR stated that annual returns must be submitted under the provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, as amended.
The authority said the filing process will be carried out according to the legal framework governing income tax in Pakistan.
Taxpayers are expected to provide accurate information while submitting their annual returns.
FBR Authorised to Scrutinise Submitted Returns
Under the law, the Federal Board of Revenue has the authority to conduct a detailed scrutiny of income tax returns submitted by taxpayers.
The review process will be carried out in accordance with the applicable legal provisions.
Officials may examine submitted information wherever necessary under the powers granted through the Income Tax Ordinance.
September 30 Deadline Remains in Effect
The FBR has fixed September 30, 2026, as the deadline for filing annual income tax returns for Tax Year 2026.
Eligible taxpayers are expected to submit their returns before the due date to fulfil their legal obligations under Pakistan’s tax laws.
With the filing window now open, taxpayers have until the end of September to complete the process. Meanwhile, the Federal Board of Revenue will continue receiving returns and may scrutinise submitted documents in line with the applicable legal framework.
