Hazim Bangwar, a bureaucrat who previously served as Assistant Commissioner in Karachi, has stirred controversy with his recent fashion statement, drawing the ire of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry.
Known for his extravagant attire and unconventional persona, Bangwar stands out from his colleagues with his bold fashion choices, reflecting his background in Fashion Design and Marketing from AIU London, along with a law degree from the UK. He challenges societal norms with his flamboyant outfits, diverging from the typical bureaucrat’s attire.
In addition to his bureaucratic career, Bangwar is also a singer, having gained popularity with his singles like “Haram” in 2019, which found success in countries like South Korea, Hungary, Egypt, and India. He followed up with “Hell Ya” and his first Urdu song in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Recently, Bangwar attended a local style award ceremony clad in a black gothic ensemble accented with a silver metallic chain. His Instagram caption, “Pakistan might not have Met Gala, but it has a lot of style,” added fuel to the fire.
This sartorial choice didn’t sit well with ex-minister Fawad, who criticized Bangwar for not respecting the dignity of his office. He took to social media to voice his disapproval, citing the historic merit-based bureaucracy of the Indian Civil Service as a stark contrast to what he sees as a decline in Pakistan’s bureaucracy.
Fawad’s criticism was echoed by some netizens, lamenting what they saw as a decline in decorum. However, others defended Bangwar’s right to express himself, questioning why there was such harsh judgment on his personal style.
Despite the backlash, some social media users praised Bangwar’s fashion sense, drawing parallels between his outfit and popular cultural references like Game of Thrones.
Others commended him for balancing his professional duties with his personal interests, seeing him as a professional and well-rounded individual.
