A well-known Pakistani television host, Rabia Ahsan, was shot dead at her residence in Rawalpindi on Sunday, November 8. Police recovered her body from a house in the Gulshanabad area along Adiala Road and launched an investigation into the incident.
The 41-year-old journalist worked as a television programme host and had reportedly presented her final show on Saturday night. Her death has raised serious concerns among journalists and members of the media community.
Police Arrest Husband Following Shooting Incident
Rawalpindi City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera confirmed that police reached the residence after receiving information about the shooting. Initial investigations revealed that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the front of her neck, below the throat.
Police recovered the firearm allegedly used in the incident and arrested her husband, Ahsan Tahir Khan, for further investigation. The Punjab Forensic Science Agency also dispatched a team to the residence to collect evidence and examine the crime scene.
Meanwhile, investigators have started recording statements and examining available evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Husband Claims Gun Fired Accidentally
During initial questioning, the victim’s husband reportedly told investigators that the shooting happened accidentally while he was handling the firearm. He denied deliberately firing the weapon and suggested that police should also question other family members present inside the house.
However, investigators have not established the exact circumstances or motive behind the incident. Authorities are examining forensic evidence and other available information to determine what happened.
The investigation remains underway, while police continue collecting evidence and completing the necessary legal procedures. Officials have indicated that further findings will help establish responsibility in the case.
