Fake News Debunked
Another wave of misinformation originating from Indian media has been debunked, as credible sources in Islamabad have firmly denied viral claims that the United States requested military bases in Pakistan for operations against Iran.
Officials described the reports as โcompletely false and baseless,โ asserting that they are part of a broader propaganda campaign aimed at destabilizing Pakistanโs image and distorting regional dynamics.
โThis is part of a recurring pattern of disinformation,โ officials stated, pointing to several past instances where Indian media spread misleading narratives involving Pakistan, such as the Jafar Express incident, the Pahalgam attack, and other periods of heightened cross-border tension.
The latest fabrication appears to have emerged following a high-profile meeting between Pakistanโs Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
According to Pakistani authorities, the misleading news was deliberately timed to misrepresent the outcome of this unprecedented diplomatic engagement. Trump hosted Munir at a private lunch at the White House on Wednesdayโmarking the first occasion a U.S. president has welcomed a Pakistani military chief without any accompanying civilian leaders.
The meeting has been described by observers as a significant boost to U.S.-Pakistan relations, which have seen strain in recent years amid Washingtonโs growing ties with New Delhi.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a broad range of issues, including trade, economic cooperation, cryptocurrency, and regional tensionsโespecially those involving Israel and Iran.
Trump publicly praised Munir for his role in de-escalating the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, and claimed the U.S. had helped prevent what could have become a nuclear war between the two rivals. Trump also reiterated his appreciation for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a โfantastic man.โ
However, India has rejected the notion of U.S. mediation, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stating that the ceasefire was a direct result of military-level talks between India and Pakistan. Modi reportedly told Trump that there was no discussion of trade deals or third-party mediation during their recent call.
Despite the diplomatic tension between India and Pakistan, Islamabad has thanked Washington for its role in urging de-escalation. Yet, it remains clear that Pakistanโs support for Iran, its condemnation of Israeli strikes, and its role in regional diplomacy are being deliberately misrepresented by hostile media narratives.
Pakistani officials have called on both domestic audiences and the international community to remain cautious and critical of false information campaigns designed to undermine Pakistanโs sovereignty and its evolving relations with key global powers.
