Meta-owned social media platforms Facebook and Instagram briefly experienced service disruptions on Sunday. Users in Pakistan and several other countries reported temporary access issues.
According to Downdetector, Pakistani users started reporting Facebook problems around 12:30pm. Reports continued rising before peaking at 196 around 1:40pm.
The issue was resolved by approximately 2:40pm. Meanwhile, Instagram users also reported widespread disruptions during the same period.
Outage Reports Rise Worldwide
Instagram outage reports began increasing around 12:30pm. They reached a peak of 204 reports at approximately 1:29pm.
In the United States, Facebook users submitted 4,808 outage reports by 12:45pm. Additionally, Instagram users filed 2,829 reports by 1:18pm.
Reuters also confirmed intermittent access to Facebook and Instagram in Singapore. Therefore, the disruption appeared to affect users across multiple regions.
Meta Faced Similar Issues Previously
Last month, Meta’s social media platforms also experienced widespread outages. More than 62,000 Facebook users and over 8,000 Instagram users reported service issues.
Earlier, in March 2024, Meta suffered a major global outage across its platforms. Facebook, Instagram, and Threads users remained locked out of their accounts for several hours.
Sunday’s disruption, however, was resolved within about two hours. Meta has not immediately commented on the cause of the temporary outage.
