Two Explosive Drones Intercepted Over Islamabad, Sources Confirm
Islamabad, March 13, 2026 – Security forces shot down or captured two drones carrying explosives inside the federal capital on Friday, according to reliable sources.
Drone Crash Locations
One drone crashed near Faizabad. The second came down in the I-9 industrial area. Sources say both had explosive materials on board.
Possible Origin Under Investigation
Early information points to the drones possibly being launched from inside Afghanistan. No official statement has confirmed the origin yet.
Airport Operations and Rumors
The incident caused a short disruption at Islamabad International Airport. The Pakistan Airports Authority first posted on X about a “brief operational adjustment.” That led to quick rumors online that the airport and airspace were fully closed. Several news outlets ran with the closure story.
Later the same day, the authority deleted the original post and put out a new one:
“Flight operations at Islamabad International Airport are continuing without interruption. All flights are operating according to schedule. Reports about closure of Islamabad airspace are baseless. Please rely only on official PAA sources for accurate information.”
Situation Still Developing
No injuries or damage on the ground have been reported so far. The military and interior ministry have not released any public comment.
This is still developing. Details can change as more official information comes out. Early reports sometimes turn out incomplete.
