Explosions have been reported in the coastal areas in southern Iran early Thursday morning. Sirik, Minab and Qeshm Island reported multiple explosions amid the Strait of Hormuz tension.
Iranian media reported the incidents as military tensions between Tehran and Washington continued to rise across the strategic waterway.
IRNA said hostile projectiles struck several areas in Sirik. However, the official news agency did not provide further details about the reported attacks.
Meanwhile, Fars News Agency reported explosions in Sirik, Minab and Qeshm Island. It cited local officials who said the sounds appeared to originate from the sea.
Earlier, an explosion was heard from the sea on Wednesday in the southern Iranian city of Jask, according to Fars.
Maritime clashes intensify
The latest reports came as the Iran-US confrontation entered a more dangerous phase around the Strait of Hormuz.
Maritime attacks and military exchanges have increased in recent days, raising concerns over the security of the major global shipping route.
Iran said Wednesday that its forces attacked 10 vessels near the strategic waterway. The claim came after the United States struck five Iranian oil tankers.
The latest incidents have further complicated diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between the two countries.
June memorandum faces new challenges
A memorandum signed in June outlined a framework for reopening the strategic waterway. The agreement also aimed to support wider efforts toward a peace deal.
However, the latest military exchanges have placed those diplomatic efforts under renewed pressure.
