Muslim leaders are begging for ceasefire while Israel is relentlessly bombing Gaza

Several leaders belonging to the ‘powerful’ Muslim countries are running here and there to convince the United State and Israel for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of Hamas-Israel war in October this year.

A view of Gaza bombing

However, setting aside the warnings and requests of the Muslim leaders, Israel continues to annihilate the Gaza Strip with relentless bombing. Even Israeli forces did not spare the hospitals and refugee camps in Gaza toeing away the United Nations frequent calls for a humanitarian ceasefire.

At present, there are 49 Muslim countries on the world’s atlas with about 1.8 billion population. Many countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkiye, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia and others are in a strong position to use their influence to force the US and Israel for a ceasefire in Gaza.

However, so far, all the prominent leaders of Muslim nations are just doing lip-service, except Iran, and doing nothing solid to end the worst-ever bombing in the Gaza Strip.

Notably, Pakistan is the only Islamic country that possesses nuclear weapons. Nevertheless, deepening debt trap and economic crisis have left Pakistani leaders with no other choice but to become ‘silent spectators’ amid regularly bloodshed in Gaza. The idiom “Beggars can’t be choosers” perfectly befits Pakistan in the prevailing situation.

According to the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 17000 Palestinians have lost their lives in brutal bombing of Gaza by brute Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the Arab and Turkish foreign ministers met the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday and discussed with him a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

Unfortunately, the United States has vetoed the United Nations’ recent resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza, giving a clear message to the world that the USA’s priority is bloodshed and not peace.

It is shocking to read that the World Health Organization has reported 450 Israeli attacks on hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

Moreover, a joint delegation of Arab and Turkish foreign ministers emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire to restore stability and security in the Gaza Strip during their visit to Ottawa, Canada.

Led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the delegation met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa before engaging in official discussions with Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, according to a statement from the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry.

The talks, which included Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki and Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, centered on the evolving situation in Gaza, particularly Israel’s heightened military actions against Palestinian civilians.

The delegation called upon the global community to swiftly shoulder its responsibility in safeguarding civilians. They stressed that deliberations on Gaza’s future and the broader Palestinian issue should follow an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation of the ongoing military aggression.

Highlighting the urgency, the delegation emphasized the necessity of establishing secure corridors for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid, food, and medical assistance to Gaza. They underlined the significance of creating political conditions conducive to forming a Palestinian state and firmly opposed discussing Gaza’s future independently from the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the UN Security Council’s stalled ceasefire resolution, the ministers voiced concerns over Israel’s increasing blatant attacks on civilians and its repeated breaches of international law.
