The European Union has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia following the Houthi militia’s attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which raised concerns about civilian safety and regional security.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas conveyed the bloc’s support during a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Sunday.
During the call, the two officials reviewed cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the European Union. They also discussed regional and international developments of mutual interest, with particular attention to the recent attack on the Saudi capital’s international airport.
Kallas strongly condemned the assault, emphasizing that indiscriminate attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure were unacceptable and could not be justified under any circumstances.
She also extended condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Her remarks underscored the European Union’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia amid rising regional tensions.
Furthermore, Kallas stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation across the region. She highlighted the need to strengthen maritime defence cooperation to protect vital waterways and maintain regional security.
The conversation reflected continued diplomatic engagement between Riyadh and Brussels as international concern grows over threats to civilian infrastructure and regional stability.
Both sides discussed cooperation and developments affecting their shared interests, highlighting the importance of coordination in addressing emerging security challenges.
